World of Warcraft ‘more addictive than crack cocaine’ (Re-issue)

London, Mar 1 (ANI): The popular computer game World of Warcraft is “more addictive than crack cocaine”, warn experts.

In a report by addiction therapists at Sweden’s Youth Care Foundation the game has been described as “the most dangerous game on the market” after a 15-year-old collapsed and went into convulsions after playing it for 24 hours earlier this month, reports The Sun.

The report’s author Sven Rollenhagen said: “World of Warcraft is the crack cocaine of the computer gaming world. Some people can’t drag themselves away and will play it till they drop.”

The game’s US makers Blizzard Entertainment have said 11million people worldwide play World of Warcraft.

Psychiatrist Dr Richard Graham, of London’s Tavistock Centre, said: “Some of my clients discuss playing games for 14, 16 hours a day — without breaks and without attending to their physical needs.

‘For those, the consequences are potentially severe.” (ANI)

ScreenFlow from Telestream

Have you ever wanted to record your World of Warcraft game or make a video tutorial of your website, but you can’t find a program to do it?  Well with ScreenFlow from Telestream you can!  Screen flow allows you to take a movie of anything on your Mac, and then edit it in their program which is very easy to use.

I have been looking for free software that records the action on your computer screen for years.  I found all the demos out there, but none of them fit the bill.  Now that I have an actual product I can see what the huge difference is.  ScreenFlow is worth every penny!

When you open up ScreenFlow you will see a transparent box that asks you what options it should include in the recording.  The three options are 1. Record video from built in iSight, 2. Record audio from built in microphone, and 3. Record computer audio.  You hit the big red button to record.

Once your recording is finished the fun starts.  Your computer will automatically open a new window that has all the editing controls on it.  If you have used Macs for a long time you will notice that the control panel looks like the old iMovie.  In this control panel you can change the video properties (the angle the picture is at), audio properties, the screen recording properties (eg., if you want the mouse to be showing zoom in when the mouse is clicked), media, text and callout action (eg., flash pointer when clicked should make a noise when clicked).

We created a short tutorial on Different District for exporting Word 2008 documents (.docx) to 2004 compatible documents (.doc).  This movie was made very easily in ScreenFlow. http://differentdistrict.com/video/other/SavingWord08Docs.mov

This is one of the only consumer level screen recording software packages on the market that has video editing software built in.  If you were familiar with the old iMovie this program is very easy to use because it has the same design with better options.

This is a great application for companies that make software (or a website) that is complicated to use.  You can easily make a few short tutorials to help train your customers, and reduce the time you’ll need on your support lines.  One of my favorite features in ScreenFlow is the click effect.  This makes a red circle appear for a minute around the cursor when you click on something.  This is a cool idea because some people can not see the tiny mouse on the screen when watching a video.

The only downside with Screenflow is that when you are recording video on your computer it may lag.  It will not lag in the video itself but it does significantly slow down everything else.  I was running it on a new 2GHz aluminum MacBook.

I would give this a 95 out of 100.  This is the best video recording software I’ve used, easy to learn, easy to edit, and it outputs great videos.  I highly suggest getting this for your Mac.

For the Horde! Geeks of Doom Style

Unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere in Ashenvale for the past 3 months chances are you’ve been noticing how big Wraith of the Lich King has been for World of Warcraft. With a retooling of the game in the near future and the addition of achievements, new raids to come and what seems to be a never ending stream of pwnage, its no wonder so many old fans and noobs alike are picking this game out and drawing battle lines for the never ending struggle between the
Alliance and the Horde.

Well Lok’ Tar! My friends, because two members of the Geeks of Doom Warcraft Guild (lovingly referred to as GoDs), along with some very cool Horde players, took one home for the Horde with the slayings of all four main leaders of the so called ‘Alliance’! So first and foremost, congrats to Doomhammre and Tarsonus (yeah, me) on their Epic Black Bear Mounts. Just remember, Mr. Wolfcastle from Simpson’s said it best. “Zee goggles. Dey do Nothing!!”.

Now to inform on how we did our mass slaying all in one night. First we stormed the boat in Darkshore to gain our way to Exodar, home to the otherworldly Draenei. We charged in with lightning speed as we weaved our way past guards and right onto the pedestal where Prophet Velen stood. It was a short fight this one, as the alliance have all but forsaken Exodar and Darnassius. After we gave him the final farewell, it was back out, and on the boat to the home of the Night elves. The next on our ‘Death List Four’ was High priestess Tyrande Whisperwind. She too was a piece of cake.

Our group decided it was time to take the fight to Stormwind. We all made our way to Stonard, in the Swamp of Sorrows to prepare for our thunderous charge on the home of the Humans. Soon we were racing into the Gates of Stormwind and were unprepared to see so many willing to fight for their king in the face of death. We wiped. Hard. But this isn’t the end of the battle but rather a glorious tactic that helped us take not only Stormwind, but also Ironforge, or as I call it, the Citadel of the Alliance. We all ran back, and stood there dead in his throne room. We waited about 20 minutes for the terror to subside in the hearts and minds of the Alliance. That’s when we stuck, with a vengeance. The assassination of King Varian Wrynn only took about 15 minutes upon resurrecting and the allies couldn’t have stopped us if they had wanted to.

No, we did not take the tram connecting Stormwind to Ironforge as many raiding parties do. We did this so it would give the allies waiting for us in Ironforge time to lose their wont to fight a phantom army. We slowly made our way from Arathi Basin and marched directly to the gates of Ironforge and made it to King Magni Bronzebeard’s throne. There were a ton of allies. And yes, we wiped again. But we used the same tactic and stacked on the door, so a special team designed only to distract and kill allies couldn’t be targeted while they did their jobs with swift efficiency. Within minutes of our raid team’s resurrection you could feel the growing sense that this was it. Bronzebeard had met his match. Well, for a few hours anyways. He fell, we fled, and we all met back at the gate of the Horde’s true home, Orgrimmar.

Then as you can see below we all lined up for some beauty shots with our new war won mounts. It was great fun and we earned ourselves black bears to ride around on.
