AoC Gold Farming and the Law

“Gold Farming”, “Power Leveling” and “RMT” are terms that, until recent times, had not been part of most MMORPG players” lexicons. Now, however, they”re common phrases for nearly anyone in a vast array of games and virtual worlds. Last week, a federal district court made an important ruling that will affect millions of MMORPG players. Our weekly wrap-up will discuss that and other pending cases, and what they”ll mean for Age of Conan players. It also includes the effect of age of conan gold and aoc cd key.Last week, a federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, issued an order in the case MDY Industries v. Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. (Vivendi Games was also a part to the case, on Blizzard”s side). The order granted summary judgment to both MDY and Blizzard on various issues, but in essence was a huge legal victory for Blizzard. The 27 page opinion involves a lot of complex legal issues, but luckily we”re here to give you the summary of what it means for you as a gamer, and for the industry as a whole.Above all, other virtual Gold Farming of games as rohan gold farming ( rohan crone farming ) could use for reference.…WHAT THIS MEANS FOR CONAN PLAYERS:Now to the meat and potatoes. What does this mean for Age of Conan players? Well, for starters, it doesn”t mean anything yet until this case is inevitably appealed to the Ninth Circuit. However, it bodes well for Funcom, and ill for hackers, gold farmers, and bot players. For one thing, it means you do not actually own your copy of Age of Conan. That”s right, you too are a licensee for the same reasons that MDY was a licensee to Blizzard. And if you play the game in a way not in accordance with Funcom”s rules, you will be a copyright infringer. That does not make sense on some level, in that if you play a character with an inappropriate name, you could be infringing copyright. But that”s the way the law works in this case.Second, it means there is active precedent and trend ruling against wow gold farmers and power levelers. It is much more likely that we will see more lawsuits from companies like Funcom or Blizzard against bot writers, gold farmers, and power levelers. This is especially well timed, because there is a case currently before the courts called Hernandez v. IGE, which is a lawsuit on behalf of all WoW players against the gold seller IGE for “diminishing their game experience”. While the case is very legally interesting, it just got a huge boost in survivability (i.e., not so likely to be dismissed) due to the Blizzard/MDY ruling. This could mean a serious dropoff in wow gold farming in ALL MMORPGs. This all happens as WoW is reporting a huge drop in the amount of gold farming and a significant boost in the value of the gold, as well as some of the most expensive money sinks ever; while AOC is slashing prices on some of its basic mounts by over 50%. Interestingly enough, court documents in that case show companies like major investment bankers Goldman Sachs are investing and even buying out profitable gold farmers like IGE.Hopefully the end result of this case will be an Age of Conan that is largely free from issues with gold farmers, power levelers, and spammers. We”ll of course keep you updated as news on these cases comes out. So thanks for suffering your way through that long explanation above, and we hope you”re now a little more aware about the legal issues surrounding this and other MMORPGs. What did you think?

Weekly Recap Sept. 20: Google, God of War, World Of Warcraft…

Another week of hard-hitting news. From September 14th to the 20th there were rumors about Google and Steam, a lawsuit against God of War creator, David Jaffe, and a new round of our popular and hard-hitting, weekly versus bout. Keep in mind that we have a couple of new reviews of two popular games, TNA: Impact and Star Wars: Force Unleashed. So if you haven’t checked them out yet, be sure to do so, pronto. All right, let’s get down to business because there’s a lot of business to cover. SundayDiablo III could be hitting store shelves before Starcraft II. I’m amazed that it even took Blizzard this long to make a Starcraft II. But to add insult to injury, it sounds like it could be delayed until DIII comes off the assembly line. Hey, I’m still waiting for Blizzard to publish a BlackThorne II. Someone should give those money-munchers a wake up call so they can get their lazy behinds off the money-pile generated from World of Warcraft. MondayStar Wars: Force Unleashed received its review. Star Wars fans should find it pretty entertaining. Our Editor, Pete Haas, took the time out of his busy day to lay down some criticism and praise, for LucasArts latest Star Wars game. **Caution:** The review contains spoilers…which is all the more reason to check it out! Wrath of the Lich King will be released for World of Warcraft( Currency : Wow Goldin November. You know what that means? A bunch of man-nerds and girl-geeks will be dressed up as their favorite WoW characters, waiting in line to purchase this add-on. Let the embarrassment begin. Gears of War 2 Vs. Resistance 2’s Final Round finally commenced. The winner (by a long shot) was Resistance 2. After receiving just a little less than 10,000 votes, Resistance 2 came out on top by a two-to-one voting lead over Gears 2. Either Gears fans just weren’t geeked enough to vote Gears 2 as the winner, or there are a lot more Resistance 2 fans out there then people would assume. TuesdayLooks like the PSN is getting some goodies for Call of Duty 4. It was announced that from September 19th to September 21st, experience points would be doubled. But that’s not all folks, there’s going to be some half-priced variety map packs available beginning on September 18th to September 25th. Check out the news link to get all the details. WednesdayA lawsuit has been filed against David Jaffe, creator of God of War, and Sony. It’s no surprise that some schmucks would want to earn a few dollar bills during these dire financial times. In this particular case it involves two Californians, an unproduced script, and I’m quite positive a green plant and a case of beer. It also appears that Google is no longer interested in purchasing Valve – the famed developers of the Half Life series – for its digital distribution service, Steam. Actually, Google- heads weren’t very interested in purchasing Steam, which is why it was a rumor. But you can check out the full story of how this whole thing came about. ThursdayA poll for TimeSplitters 4 is asking gamers which console they would prefer to play the new game on. It’s amazing that people would rather play TS4 for the Wii more than PC. Either Wii-gamers really want to shoot some monkeys, or PC gamers just don’t care enough about shooting monkeys. Hope for a Deus Ex sequel may not be a vain hope. One of the designers of Deus Ex has made it public about his continued work in the game design field, specifically on an un-named project that just-so-happens to be a first-person, shooter-RPG. Click the link to check out the rest of the news story, and get the full low-down on this mysterious new project. FridayWhile Round 3 has concluded for the battle between Resistance 2 and Gears 2, things are just getting started with our battle-ground bouts. Far Cry 2 and Call of Duty: World at War butt-heads for the first time in Round 1. Check out who took the lead in the first round of this epic confrontation. It looks like Mass Effect could be coming to the big screen, but any fan of the game probably seen it coming a mile away. As of now, Avi Arad has the rights to either bludgeon this game into B-movie territory, or find a decent crew and make it a half-way average flick. Either way, it’s a long way away from a theater near you. Click the link to find out why. SaturdayBlend Games has a review up of Crysis Warhead. If you don’t think your computer can muster the requirements to play Warhead, don’t worry, you can always watch your friends play on their brand new computer. If you’re a little misinformed about Far Cry 2, don’t worry. Before Round 2 begins you can just check out Blend Games’ new Preview for Far Cry 2. And the best part about it is that you don’t even have to go to
Africa to find out how violent it can be. Remember, though, to stay tuned in with Blend Games for more news and info on all the latest games. You can also drop by the Blend Games Forum to discuss hot gaming topics.

World of Warcraft upkeep costs only $200m

Total. Since 2004
Blizzard Entertainment is indisputably making money hand-over-fist with its massively popular online RPG, World of Warcraft (currency: wow gold )
. But surely maintaining a game with some 10 million active subscribers worldwide takes a serious bite out of profits?
Not so, according to Blizzard on its Analyst Day conference call on Tuesday. The game maker said it has spent only $
200m (~ £110.24m) on upkeep since the game launched in 2004.
That $200m figure apparently includes payroll for the entire staff, hardware support, and customer service. The news comes care of gaming blog Kotaku
While Blizzard doesn’t say exactly how much it makes off world of warcraft, let’s try to put that into some perspective.
Blizzard estimates the game has over 10 million subscribers worldwide. Rates depend on the region, and things like free guest passes and discounts make things tricky. But let’s use a conservative three quarters of that figure to play around with - 7,500,000 users paying month-to-month - and let’s say their monthly subscription rate is $15 (the US rate).
That would mean the company is pulling in a total $112.5m every month. That’s $1.35bn (~ £743.5m) per year in revenue from subscription fees alone.
Not bad for a four-year investment of only $200m.
And of course, that $1.35bn number may rise to new heights with the release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack in November.
Sure there’s plenty of other revenues - and expenses - that factor into the equation, but the point is that Blizzard has hatched itself a golden egg. Or [Azerothian Diamond] perhaps (no wait, those are pretty much vendor trash nowadays.)
Let’s beat this dead horse. Consider The9, owner of six of China’s fastest privately-owned computers and regional publisher and server host of WoW in that country. In August, the company said it earned $66.3m in its second quarter. About 90 per cent of those earnings were from running WoW.

Bejeweled Comes To World Of Warcraft

Good news for those who like to sprinkle crystal meth on their crack cocaine: PopCap has created an official version of Bejeweled as an add-on for World of Warcraft. ( Buy wow gold )
The idea originally took form as an unofficial version of the game called Besharded, created by Michael Fromwiller as a way to kill time during farming and long raiding sessions. The Bejeweled clone eventually drew the attention of PopCap, which responded in a very cool fashion by not only embracing the idea, but by hiring Fromwiller to create a more polished, official version of the game.
The Bejeweled add-on for world of warcraft will offer classic, timed and “flight” game modes, according to Gamasutra, as well as a customizable interface, a persistent high score table and a “Bejeweling tradeskill” ranking for player achievements. The new mini-game will be available beginning September 25, and best of all, it will be absolutely free.
And that, kids, is how you do it. Bejeweled is an old game and the effort required to buff it up for World of Warcraft was probably minimal, but by doing the exact opposite of what the industry normally does in these cases, which is to say cease-and-desist letters backed by the threat of heavy-handed legal action, PopCap has managed to turn a forgettable little side-story into a potentially huge public relations coup and mountains of gamer good will. Is it any wonder they’re at the top of the heap? Casual they may be, but a lot of mainstream videogame publishers would do well to take note.

Lose 100 Pounds With ‘World of Warcraft’

Hey, Althaea just lost 100 pounds! Thanks World of Warcraft!
Imitating the folks who have attached a treadmill to their computers in order to simulate the real
World of warcraft (currency: wow gold )
experience, a player from the Eitrigg server claims that he has lost over 100 pounds by traversing the lands of Azeroth via “WarBiking”. In an interview with WoWInsider, the entity known as Althaea said:
“I’d been thinking about the treadmill for several months. I don’t know whether it was before or after the apnea diagnosis, but I did come across some of the “everyday exercise” research that’s going on at the Mayo Clinic. Basically, though, I’d been thinking that I only use a few left-hand key bindings for most of my WoW play, and I use the arrow keys for movement (I know, I know, L2P, blah blah blah) — so why couldn’t I rig up some sort of way to put a computer on a treadmill and play?”
Yes, why not? Because not only did he shed the weight, but according to the interview, the WoW excercise also helped him diagnose his sleep apnea. Amazing! We’re still trying to blueprint our own exercise contraption. Hit the jump to see the WoW treadmill in action!
