‘Sims 3′ Details: Sex In The Science Lab, Stealing Candy From Babies

Last week, I got a look at “The Sims
3” for the first time.
To be honest, I hadn’t played “The Sims” since the release of the “Hot Date” expansion pack for “The Sims 2″; it was then I had the sudden realization that I should go outside to find real “hot dates.” (This is coming from the person who would later become a regular “World of Warcraft” player (Buy wow gold), so you can guess how the “hot date” prospect turned out.)
Anyway, during a demo at a PR office in New York City, associate producer Lyndsay Pearson, ran down a few saucy, new details about the game that makes staying inside seem worthwhile:
A simpler, user interface – The user interface for “The Sims 3″ looks more complex than that of previous world of warcraft games in the series. Its main screen includes more tabs and meters that go into more detail on a particular Sim’s relationships, personality traits and moods. However, Pearson told me the team was actually trying to make the interface “more approachable.” She said the game’s tutorials are designed to ease players — both longtime and new — into the gameplay. “People that are a little daunted by the game, we really want them to understand it’s about how you want to play,” she said. “And we’ll teach you the basics, but then if you don’t want to pay attention to [certain aspects], you don’t have to. If you just want to play this part, that’s cool. It’s totally up to you.”
Pearson also said not to worry: The game also has the hardcore “Sims” player in mind. “We still offer the hardcore fans ways to find the most extreme path to get results, and that’s the kind of stuff they love,” she said. “And so as long as we can still offer that for them, I think we can cover that spectrum pretty well and make it a fun experience for everybody. We want to make it look easier, but it’s still got all the fun stuff for the people that want to be all detailed.”
Easier house customization — Pearson promised that customizing one’s house in “The Sims 3″ was easier than before. The tools are the same, but they’ve made a few changes to help out the players, like being able to drag walls to make rooms bigger and smaller (versus manually building and deleting walls), and simplifying the ways players can paint walls and floors. For obsessive “Sims” players who might’ve been bothered by not being able to center a two-tile television in front of a three-tile couch, well, the dev team’s fixed that by allowing objects to be centered in the game.” Now you can actually center things!” Pearson said with enthusiasm. “And now you can set it up however you want — you can set things on diagonals and you can really get more realistic with things than you were able to do before.”
Torturing your Sims — The core gameplay of “Sims” games are always good and fun, but I wanted to know: Could you still torture you Sims? Like build four walls around them? Pearson laughed, thankfully, and said, “You will still be able to mess with them. In fact, in ‘Sims 3′ you can mess with other people now, too. You can go into your neighbor’s house and steal their stuff or break their TV, so you can actually be more devious on a grand scale than you have been before.” These deviant behaviors are related to the new personality traits system, where each character can have five distinct personality traits that shape how your Sim behaves and interacts.
“You can be a kleptomaniac, you can be evil, and actually, evil Sims will steal candy from babies,” she said with a laugh. “It will be a little toddler sitting there and then you get this special social to go steal candy from them; then they walk up to them and just like take it. We always pay attention to the audience that likes to likes to continue to kind of mess with their Sims.” So the “Sims” developers kept me in mind.
Making “Woohoo” in different locations — I also asked Pearson if sex in the game (called “Woohoo”) was treated the same as in the past. She assured me that Sims can still woohoo “all the time.” And they’re now allowed to do it in other places outside the home. “We’ve expanded that into the open world as well,” she explained. “Your Sim can go on a tour of City Hall and while they happen to be there, they could woohoo there. Then they might get caught and run out in their underwear or they’ll run out in an outfit from a job there or something like that. Or if your spouse works at the science lab, you could go visit them in the middle of the day… [laughs] So you know, we support that. That’s cool.”
However, Sims can’t woohoo anywhere your dirty minds can imagine. “You can’t go to the park or anything like that,” she said. “We have a couple of specific ones that we picked that sort of made sense that you might be there. And you can’t woohoo at school. We have to draw the line in some places.”
You’ll be able to get your “woohoo” on when the game is released for PC in February 2009.

The psychology behind open source and gaming

One of the things that drive success in online games such as World of Warcraft (Currency: wow gold) is the community and ecosystem that surround the game itself. This is much akin to open source where projects grow and become successful as individuals become part of the whole.
How we define our individual identities and the forms of social participation that we pursue to shape these identities drive our engagement. Whether it’s software or gaming, we shape the world around us.
This existential viewpoint also explains a bit why Spore is such an interesting game (despite its archaic DRM)–we get to define our universe and then engage with it.
The Game Anthropologist gets to the root of the issue:
The long and short of it? The game makes the player. When we play games, we are at the outset making an agreement that we are going to do whatever the game tells us to. We can change our minds. We can find out beforehand what is in the game.
This is nearly the exact same sentiment as we see with open source. Users make the software and while we may initially agree with what the software tells us to do, we can change our minds and modify it accordingly.
Contrast that approach with packaged applications that force you into their way of doing things, or SaaS applications that require you to change business processes to meet their model.
Back in 2005, I wrote about the open source angle for a Release 1.0 report (PDF available for free download):
Within the open-source space there is an underlying thread of reciprocity and support of the group as a whole over individual concerns. Certainly, not everything done in the open-source realm is noble or even beneficial, but by and large the community does support a greater good–the furthering of open source and open standards across all technology platforms and devices.
Not much has changed in the last three years, though the trend of benefit for the greater has been manipulated beyond selflessness and into other means that help users. While a completely for-profit company, Dell’s Ideastorm is one example where the community helps to define how Dell should modify its products. Most participants seem to accept that they will use Dell products and as such want them to be better.
Despite the guiding hand of writers and game engines, it’s the players that shape the game. Just like open-source projects, without a relationship (and obsession) between developers and users most games will flounder

Easy Ways to Make Gold in World of Warcraft

With this basic information, you can now begin to acquire items from battles and quests to make easy gold in World of Warcraft using the Auction House system. You can buy World of Warcraft to move to a gold account by buying and selling through the auction house within the game. There are many individuals who sell their wow gold in online auction sites.
The better and safer ways to Make Gold In World of Warcraft is to use the auction house to sell your goods and keep leveling your professions like skinning so you can sell animal furs. There are still some auction sites out there but beware they may be filled with gold farmers. Once you have sufficient linen this too can be put up for auction and you should make plenty of gold of it. You paid one gold and below for your supply, so taking into account listing fees and the auction house cut, you need to price it at a point which will help you make a decent profit.
The following are maybe the most important factors in achieving gold wealth playing Wow: Auction House: It is the key location to make as much money as you want but it takes a lot of learning. Use The Auction House System Items from battles and quests that you go on can be used to make wow gold using what is known as the auction house system. Before buying wow gold for sale on an online auction site you are encouraged to check the feedback of a seller and know the security provided by the site.
Another way you can make a ton of gold without having to resort to Buy WoW gold is through the auction house and if you learn how to buy low and sell high effectively you can make a killing and more than 300 wow gold an hour if done properly. These items usually obtain a heavy fee in the auction house so picking them up to sell them later can help you get gold much faster. While currently there are a few auction sites catering to this, they are badly run and filled with gold farmers spamming their wares.
Far better ways to make gold are to increase your bag space, level a profession or sell items at the auction house. Once you become superior at engineering you will be able to make higher level explosives which will sell for even more gold at the auction house. You can either put in some work, buy low sell high items you acquire at the auction, or just bust out the credit card and pay for the gold you want or need. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

I HAVE A CONFESSION to make. I am a World of Warcraft addict.

Ever since I was convinced to buy the game by a close friend of mine (that’d be me… sorry! -Ed), I’ve been hooked. I am, however, in excellent company. Since its initial release in 2004, World of Warcraft (Currency: wow gold) has grown to become a gaming phenomenon with legions of fanatical players - fanatical in the kind of way that puts your average religious zealot to shame.
In the past year Blizzard has celebrated a swelling monthly subscription base, too. Staggeringly, there are now more than 10 million accounts worldwide.
Soon, this army of gamers will have a vast new continent to explore and challenges to overcome with the impending release of Wrath of the Lich King, currently in beta. Wrath of the Lich King is the second expansion in the World of Warcraft series following The Burning Crusade from nearly two years ago.

Wrath of the Lich King will feature an increase in the level cap to 80, the spectacular continent of Northrend and the introduction of a new class - the Deathknight. Picture a demonic blending of a Ret Pally and a Rogue and you’re on the right track to a Death Knight, although that is oversimplifying it somewhat. It is a melee class that has a very good personal DPS ability and utility. Playing one is a juggling act between managing your Runic Rower (think Rage or Energy), your Runes (these refresh on a short cooldown and can be spent to use many different abilities and wow gold ) and loads of skill and talent cooldowns.
Death Knights have good tanking and off-tanking potential also, magical damage encounters especially. In PvP they are also looking imposing and will give the caster classes a real headache in particular. Overall, an entertaining new class and worth trying out as a new main or alt.
The outdoor environments of Lich King are visually impressive, despite the limitations of the Warcraft game engine which is not as advanced as some of its competitors. The Blizzard designers haven’t squandered the opportunity to create some spectacular landscapes in the wintry continent of Northrend.

Sweeping tundras and frozen ice shelves; the detail that has gone into the creation of the zones of Northrend is clear. I found myself occasionally taking moments simply to absorb surroundings, something that has raised the bar from previous content. Blizzard has also recently hinted at progressive graphical updates rather than an entirely new engine, so it’ll be interesting to see how this is implemented in the future.
Another highlight will be the much anticipated return of Naxxaramas. At first glance this might seem like a low-blow from the developers simply reusing old content, but Naxx is generally agreed to be the best and most intriguing instance in the game to date. The zone itself was originally added late in June ‘06, only five short months before The Burning Crusade expansion, and far too small a fraction of players were able to experience it in its original state. The Naxx veterans are likely to enjoy the stroll down memory lane and those unfortunates who have never been aren’t going to miss out on some classic Warcraft content.
Unfortunately not much seems to have been done to make Naxx look much more impressive than it was a few years ago. Hopefully it’ll see some treatment before release.

Lake Wintergrasp is a new mandatory PvP zone that includes destructible buildings and siege engines. Battlefield 1942 meets world of warcraft . It’s a little gimmicky but it’s a great idea, an outdoor PvP zone that has the potential to generate the huge battles that just don’t happen any more in Alterac - provided players can be encouraged to participate.
A real challenge ahead for the developers will be the unenviable task of trying to find more PvP balance than was achieved in The Burning Crusade. Warcraft PvP is dynamic and vibrant; the introduction of the arena system took the PvP environment in an exciting new direction but exposed some of the glaring imbalances throughout the classes. PvP makes up a huge part of the game and early indications are that it’s not looking positive for a better quality of balancing. Sure, it’s beta, and there’s a great deal of work to be done (and many talents and skills are not working quite as intended as yet) however the feeling is that the same old classes will be devastating in the same old ways - disappointing.

The Burning Crusade saw Blizzard introduce features that made the game more accessible for casual players. Downsizing endgame raids to 25 rather than 40 was popular, as were 10-man instances. In Wrath of the Lich King, all major endgame 25-man raids will have 10-man versions, making the content more accessible to all. “Badge” and PvP earned loot also returns. So will Wrath of the Lich King satisfy the teeming masses? Pretty much. Even the hard to impress fans should be looking forward to this new expansion release with anticipation. It’s chock full of exciting new content and won’t disappoint.
